I have the worst haircut imaginable and all I want is for it to be long again.

I’ve been told I should try horse shampoo or sleeping with my head off the bed (so that the blood rushes to my scalp), but I’m not sure if these work… or if they’re even safe???

Should I try any of the above, or can you recommend a product – or something – that will speed up the growth process?

My daughter wanted desparately to have long hair. So I bought Trident horse shampoo (you can even get it at Dischem now) and mixed it in with Tresemme that I use for her hair - the mixture is 50/50 of each bottle. I wash her hair twice weekly and she now has beautiful, thick and shiny long hair! It took about six months to have her hair under her shoulder blades! I will not stop using it for her and myself as it really works.

I've also heard that Horse shampoo is a great way to stimulate hair growth. Haven't tried it yet, but will pop in at Dischem and get a bottle. I never was sure where to find it, but now I know.

Horse shampoo can work well but if you have a naturally dry scalp or naturally dry hair, or dyed/chemically altered hair, it will be a problem and you will have to invest in a very rich and top-range conditioner and treatment masque. Try taking omega 3 and 6 capsules, they will prevent breakage so your hair will grow longer than it normally would. Also go to the pharmacy and ask the pharmacist for pills that will aid hair growth, there are quite a few on the market.

Try use trichotin hair supplements, its a tablet once a day, and is really effective, they even sell it at hair growth clinics. They are stocked at hair salons too, or you can order online. The service is really good if you order online and is couriered to you at no extra cost. Hope that helps.

Good luck

I used Horse shampoo and added a small container of bergamot essence(available at any pharmacy). seeing that my hair naturally grows quite quickly, it was hard for me to judge how much the process was quickened, but if you are going to try Horse Shampoo, it won't hurt to add some bergamot essence, it doesn't cost much.

Why did you use horse shampoo then? Is there something else that's it's good for? What is Bergamot essence for?

I heard from different people that Horse shampoo or Bergamot essence helps hair growth. you usually add the Bergamot essence to your usual shampoo, but seeing that I wanted something that really works, I just combined the two. - I have longish hair for a guy, but I felt a random impulsive desire to shave it off one day, I did...but after a week or two, when my hair reached an akward length , I simply needed it to get past that akward stage as quickly as possible. - I'd recommend you try both, and some of the comments above suggest certain brands of Horse shampoo that worked for them, so it might be worth while to look into buying a certain brand of Horse shampoo that someone knows works well.

Oh god don't do the head hanging of the bed thing! What a horrible tip!

Horse shampoo does seem to work for people, amla oil and argan oil seem to too. I use Pro Naturals moroccan argan oil as this is the only one that isn't greasy, smells great and is very light on hair. It has double the benefits of coconut, almond, amla or olive oil, so it's really the best choice. You can get it online at Beyas. This brand also has hair masks, shampoos and conditioners with argan oil (sulfate free).

Also, use your fingertips to massage your scalp in circular motions. This stimulates growth by improving circulation. Do this every night and it'll also help you relax before bed :)
