A.S. Byatt was an author I had not read but felt i should read. In some ways I didn’t feel like a proper read when I had to admit never having read Byatt. I could see people think 'oh really???' in shock as I said no.

So a combination of peer group pressure and drawing the B card when I went to the library had me leaving with Little Black Book of Stories in my library bag.

i am so glad i buckled under the pressure - I so enjoyed these stories.

From the middle aged women who allow their lives to be determined by what they may or may not have seen as children, to the weird coupling of the fastidious doctor and the pierced waif the five stories in this little book all sucked me, shook me up and left me thinking ‘wow’. And in quite different ways.

This little book has made me a Byatt fan.

I even cheated and went back to the B shelves to get a full length one for this library month
But don’t tell anyone :-)

I've read and enjoyed The Children's Book - although it felt a tad bit long at times. Dying to read Possession as well. Think I'll also try and see if our library has it.

Oh oh... The Matisse Stories! She's GREAT at short stories. I think she's the one who said, "In a novel you can make up to 6 mistakes. In a short story you can't make one." Or something like that. Clearly I'm too lazy to Google it.
